Established in 1927, the Gujarat Law Society (GLS) stands as one of the most esteemed and well-regarded educational institutions in Gujarat. Over the decades, GLS has expanded its horizons far beyond its initial focus on legal education, growing into a multi-disciplinary educational trust that currently operates more than 30 institutions across various fields. Today, GLS caters to a diverse range of disciplines, including law, commerce, arts, science, business administration, computer applications, and design, shaping the future of over 38,000 students annually.
Among the many distinguished institutions under the GLS umbrella, Sir L.A. Shah Law College, founded in 1927, remains the cornerstone of GLS's commitment to excellence in legal education. As Gujarat’s first law college, it set the standard for legal education in the state and continues to lead in providing high-quality training to future legal professionals. Alongside this, GLS has developed several other institutions, including the H.A. College of Commerce ,GLS (Sadguna & BD) College for Girls, I.M. Nanavati Law College, Smt Laxmiben & Chimanlal Mehta Arts College, C.U. Shah Arts College, Maneklal Nanavati Law College, and C.U. Shah City Commerce College, among others, all of which are renowned for their academic rigor and industry-focused curricula.
In 2015, GLS took a significant step forward by establishing GLS University under the Gujarat Private University Act. This new chapter allowed the society to further expand its educational offerings, providing a platform for students to pursue higher education in a wide array of programs, including business management, law, computer applications, and the arts. Today, GLS University serves as a premier institution for higher learning, offering undergraduate and postgraduate courses that equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in their respective fields.
